Eindhoven, North Brabant, Netherlands – October 19, 2026 – The Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard for connecting AI agents to tools and data, has passed 10,000 published servers, and mean.md, a builder guide named after the Markdown (.md) instruction files it covers, offers a starter kit and more than 30 guides for software to software workflows at SoftwaretoSoftware.com. In these workflows, AI agents, application programming interfaces (APIs) and everyday apps pass work to each other. The project is led by serial startup founder Violetta Bonenkamp and written for solopreneurs, startup teams, small businesses, marketers and technical builders who want useful systems built from the tools they already use.
Open standards for agents now have a neutral home
Two of the building blocks mean.md covers moved to neutral governance in December 2025, when the Linux Foundation formed the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). Its founding projects included MCP, the open protocol created by Anthropic for connecting AI models to tools, data and applications, which the Linux Foundation said had more than 10,000 published servers, and AGENTS.md, OpenAI’s instruction file format for coding agents, which it said had been adopted by more than 60,000 open source projects and agent frameworks.
“For a small team, the practical questions are how much access to give an agent, what instructions it follows and how the team checks the result,” said Violetta Bonenkamp, who leads mean.md. “Those choices decide how much time a workflow saves.”
A starter kit for the first workflow
The Software-to-Software Starter Kit from mean.md helps builders plan software to software workflows one at a time, defining the first workflow before connecting more tools. It includes:
- a short AGENTS.md outline for goals, files, tools, approval rules and quality checks
- a design.md outline for colours, typography, layout, components and mobile fit
- a one-page workflow map for the task, trigger, tools, files, review step and owner
- an MCP readiness checklist for deciding whether a workflow needs MCP, an API, a manual step or a simpler file-based path
- a publishing checklist for copy, page code, metadata, links, forms, legal pages and mobile rendering
When an API is enough and when MCP helps
The guide to API vs MCP explains how to choose a connection for an agent, and the MCP guide for builders recommends starting small: one useful server, a short tool list, limited data exposure and clear checks on what the agent can and cannot do. Other guides cover MCP server examples, agent context management, rules files, the AGENTS.md guide and workflows built with Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
Use case guides cover code review and quality assurance agents, documentation, landing pages, newsletters, social content, search engine optimisation (SEO), customer research, operations, standard operating procedures and small business workflows.
“An instruction file is the cheapest quality control a builder can add,” Violetta Bonenkamp said. “Write down the goal, the files, the tools and the review rules once, and every agent run starts from the same page.”
mean.md checks tool claims against reliable sources and keeps human review in every workflow it describes.
About mean.md
mean.md is a practical guide to software to software workflows for builders who want agents, APIs, MCP servers, instruction files and everyday apps to work together. Founded in 2026 by serial startup founder Violetta Bonenkamp and operated by Mean CEO, it offers guides on agent workflows, MCP and APIs, instruction files such as AGENTS.md and design.md, and practical systems for coding, marketing, content and operations. Its mission is to make small software systems easier to design, check and repeat. Builders can download the Software-to-Software Starter Kit at SoftwaretoSoftware.com.
